Career Description:Manage personnel and weapons operations to destroy enemy positions, aircraft, and vessels. Duties include planning, targeting, and coordinating the tactical deployment of field artillery and air defense artillery missile systems units; directing the establishment and operation of fire control communications systems; targeting and launching intercontinental ballistic missiles; directing the storage and handling of nuclear munitions and components; overseeing security of weapons storage and launch facilities; and managing maintenance of weapons systems.

Education |
- A four-year college degree is required to enter some specialties in this occupation. Although there are women artillery and missile officers, some specialties are restricted to men. Military job training consists of between 3 and 19 weeks of classroom instruction and field training under simulated combat conditions. Course length varies depending upon specialty. Course content typically includes artillery tactics, ammunition handling procedures, fire direction control procedures, missile targeting, security coding/authentication procedures, launch operations, maintenance, and air defense artillery duties. Further training occurs on the job and through advanced courses.
