Career Summary:


  • Experience- A minimum of two to four years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is needed for these occupations. For example, an accountant must complete four years of college and work for several years in accounting to be considered qualified.
  • Education- Most of these occupations require a four - year bachelor's degree, but some do not.
  • Job Training- Employees in these occupations usually need several years of work-related experience, on-the-job training, and/or vocational training.
  • Examples- Many of these occupations involve coordinating, supervising, managing, or training others. Examples include accountants, human resource managers, computer programmers, teachers, chemists, and police detectives.

  • Involve parent volunteers and older students in children's activities, in order to facilitate involvement in focused, complex play.
  • Perform administrative duties such as assisting in school libraries, hall and cafeteria monitoring, and bus loading and unloading.

  • Public school teachers must be licensed in Tennessee. Future teachers no longer major in elementary or secondary education. With the exception of special education and occupational education, a candidate must have an academic major. Applicants seeking initial licensure or additional endorsements must also pass all applicable portions of the Praxis Series Exams. A professional teacher's license is issued to a teacher who has completed a minimum of three years experience in an approved school and who has received a positive local evaluation in a Tennessee public school system. The professional license is valid for ten years and is renewable by meeting state requirements. High school students who wish to become teachers should pursue college preparatory courses.
