  • Experience- A minimum of two to four years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is needed for these occupations. For example, an accountant must complete four years of college and work for several years in accounting to be considered qualified.
  • Education- Most of these occupations require a four - year bachelor's degree, but some do not.
  • Job Training- Employees in these occupations usually need several years of work-related experience, on-the-job training, and/or vocational training.
  • Examples- Many of these occupations involve coordinating, supervising, managing, or training others. Examples include accountants, human resource managers, computer programmers, teachers, chemists, and police detectives.

  • Analyze organic and inorganic compounds to determine chemical and physical properties, composition, structure, relationships, and reactions, utilizing chromatography, spectroscopy, and spectrophotometry techniques.

  • A bachelor's degree with a major in chemistry is sufficient for many beginning jobs as a chemist. However, graduate training is required for most research jobs and college teaching. Beginning chemists should have a broad background in chemistry with excellent laboratory skills. High school students should prepare for this career by taking courses in mathematics, chemistry, biology, physics, and science. College courses include analytical, inorganic, and physical chemistry.

    Generally, a 4-year degree in chemistry is required in the military. No initial job training is provided to military officers in this occupation.
