Federal law requires appraisers of most types of real estate (all property that is financed by a Federally regulated lender) to be licensed by the State of Tennessee. Formal courses, job experience, and a satisfactory score on the examination are needed for certification. A large number of appraisers have some college training. College courses in real estate, finance, business administration, statistics, computer applications, economics, and marketing are helpful. High school students will find courses in business, marketing education, computer applications, English, public speaking, and mathematics useful.
