Career Summary:


  • Experience- A minimum of two to four years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is needed for these occupations. For example, an accountant must complete four years of college and work for several years in accounting to be considered qualified.
  • Education- Most of these occupations require a four - year bachelor's degree, but some do not.
  • Job Training- Employees in these occupations usually need several years of work-related experience, on-the-job training, and/or vocational training.
  • Examples- Many of these occupations involve coordinating, supervising, managing, or training others. Examples include accountants, human resource managers, computer programmers, teachers, chemists, and police detectives.

  • Monitor the facility to ensure that it remains safe, secure, and well-maintained.

  • Educational requirements for administrative services managers vary widely depending on the size and complexity of the organization. In small organizations, experience may be the only requirement needed to enter a position as office manager. When an opening in administrative services management occurs, the office manager may be promoted to the position based on past performance. In large organizations, however, administrative services managers normally are hired from the outside and each position has formal education and experience requirements. Some administrative services managers have advanced degrees. Specific requirements vary by job responsibility. For first-line administrative services managers of secretarial, mailroom, and related support activities, many employers prefer an associate's degree in business or management, although a high school diploma may suffice when combined with appropriate experience. For related information and recommended courses to prepare for this occupation, Tennessee high school students may visit the Marketing Education Standards, Competency Profiles, and Resource Links or Business and Information Technology Standards online. For managers of audiovisual, graphics, and other technical activities, postsecondary technical school training is preferred. Managers of highly complex services such as contract administration generally need at least a bachelor's degree in business, human resources, or finance.

    Military job training is offered for some specialties. Training length varies; however, most managers receive significant on-the-job training.
