Job Description: Electromechanical equipment assemblers perform repetitive tasks on an assembly line. They prepare and test equipment or devices such as appliances, dynamometers, tape drives, actuators or ejection-seat mechanisms.

Duties: Electromechanical equipment assemblers may perform some or all of the following tasks:

  • Position parts to be assembled
  • Bolt, screw, and fasten parts together
  • Pass units being assembled to other workers
  • Load and unload parts
  • Perform light metal cutting tasks

Working Conditions: Electromechanical equipment assemblers generally work standing beside assembly lines in factories. They may be required to lift items of 20 pounds (maximum) and lift and/or carry items weighing no more than 10 pounds. The work can be noisy and dirty at times. The majority of the work is accomplished by standing, bending, and reaching. Most assemblers work a standard 40-hour week. Some shift work may be required to meet production demands.

Educational Requirements: Most employers prefer hiring high school graduates for this position. Much of the job is learned through on-the-job training with experienced assemblers. Without a high school diploma, advancement opportunities are limited.
