Job Description: Machine assemblers put together machinery in factories. They assemble the machinery according to blueprints and shop orders. Assemblers check the machinery to make sure it runs properly. They make any necessary adjustments to assure the machinery operates smoothly.
Duties: Machine assemblers may perform some or all of the following tasks:
- Plan assembly procedures
- Remove small quantities of metal using hand files or portable grinders
- Drill, tap, or ream holes
- Align components and fasten them together
- Install moving parts
- Bend and install pipes
- Align and mesh gears

Working Conditions: Machine assemblers usually work 40 hours a week. Some shift work may be required. Work may take place in noisy factory settings. This job requires repetitive activities that may become tedious.
Educational Requirements: Most employers prefer hiring high school graduates for this position. Much of the job is learned through on-the-job training with experienced machine assemblers.
