Job Description: Amusement park workers take care of visitors to amusement parks. Their work responsibility varies according to the type of amusement park in which they work. Generally, they assist patrons so that they may enjoy leisure activities safely. They may also be called recreation attendants, sports complex attendants, activities attendants, or recreation clerks.
Duties: Typical tasks of amusement park workers may include the following:
- Escort park visitors to points of interest
- Assist patrons on and off amusement park rides
- Check to assure that riders are properly secured and that safety procedures are being followed
- Take pictures of park patrons
- Clean park grounds and restroom areas
- Distribute literature such as maps and show schedules
- Monitor children using park play areas
- Direct guests to seats for park attractions
- Sell tickets, food items, and park souvenirs

Working Conditions: Working conditions vary greatly according to work assignments and the nature of the amusement/recreation facility. Much of the work may be performed outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Work is usually seasonal, with evening and weekend work common.
Educational Requirements: Training requirements vary by organization. In general, large theme parks have up to one month of formal, on-the-job training while smaller theme parks and carnivals have no formal training period.
